It’s that time of year when the weather is perfect to be outside here at Branchlands Senior Living. Being close to nature can lift our mood and evoke a sense of calm, and having a nice place to sit outside can bring people together and foster companionship. A senior living community should have plenty of spaces to relax as well as to share time with friends and fellow residents. Here at Branchlands, residents find that many of our outdoor spaces quickly become new go-to favorites.
The Manor House Courtyard

One of the favorite spaces at The Manor House Independent Living at Branchlands is the courtyard (above), a lovely gathering space where residents can relax outdoors. There’s even a water feature to add to the calm and peaceful ambiance. Who would realize that access to Route 29 is less than a mile away? At events or simply when the weather is nice, you’ll find folks sitting in the shade of the trees, admiring the garden, and playing cards with friends. They may even be doing a little gardening themselves.
The Front Porch
Perhaps Branchlands most prominent outdoor living space is the front porch of The Manor House. Originally built circa 1818, the front porch is a classic grand southern porch, with rocking chairs and plenty of comfortable seating. Residents come out to make the most of warm weather and lovely views. On any given day, you’re likely to see several friendly faces, whether they’re enjoying an ice cream social or just some quiet time with a book.
Walking Trails and Gazebo

Another beloved outdoor living space for both residents of The Manor House and Linden House Assisted Living includes the walking trail in the Branchlands neighborhood. A wooded trail around the pond allows residents to enjoy nature while taking a stroll or bringing their furry friend for a walk. They can also head over to the gazebo (below), centrally located between The Manor House and Linden House, to sit and savor spring blossoms or falling leaves.

Outdoor Living at Linden House
At Linden House Assisted Living and Memory Care, the garden patio area sees a lot of use, especially when the weather is nice. It’s a prime location for residents looking to enjoy the outdoors with a drink or play cards with friends. Last year’s Western-themed party for National Assisted Living Week is an example of one of the many special events that take place on the patio

That’s not Linden House’s only outdoor space, though; there are also upper-level terraces with panoramic views of the Branchlands community. The activities director plans events in the newly refreshed spaces as weather permits.
Memory Care Outdoor Space
The intentional design of The Gardens Memory Care at Linden House fosters independence as much as possible while ensuring safety and preserving dignity, and that carries over into the outdoor space. In addition to their rooms, Memory Care residents experience a home-like atmosphere in one of three self-contained neighborhoods (each of which features a living area, dining area, and kitchen) where residents gather together. They also have the opportunity to stroll or to sit and relax in a secure outdoor space, located off the living area, where they can even “check” the mail in one of the mailboxes.

Here at Branchlands, we take great care to ensure our residents have not only the right outdoor living spaces for quiet moments and social activities, but also spaces that help each person thrive. And one of the best parts about living here is that these comforting outdoor living spaces are maintenance-free — we handle all the cleaning and repairs.
